During a procedure called coronary angiography, x-rays and a specific dye (contrast material) are used to view how blood moves through the arteries in your heart. Cardiac catheterization is occasionally used in conjunction with coronary angiography. The pressures in the heart chambers are measured during this process. You will receive a light sedative prior to the test to aid in your relaxation. A local anesthetic is used to clean and numb a part of your body (such as the arm or groin). A thin, hollow tube known as a catheter is cautiously advanced up into the heart by the cardiologist through an artery. The doctor positions the catheter with the aid of X-ray pictures. Dye (contrast material) is introduced into the catheter after it has been positioned. To observe the dye's passage through the artery, X-ray photographs are acquired. The colour aids in highlighting any blood flow obstructions.
